Antonyms: impossible, illogical, uncertain, questionable, doubtful
Tips: Think of the phonetically similar word possible, as it means "capable of happening; feasible." Plausible describes something possible to believe, although it doesn't necessarily have to be true, or may not yet be proven.
Usage Examples:
It's plausible that she may clean the garage this weekend, but if the weather is beautiful, you'll more likely find her at the beach. (conceivable, possible)
There is no plausible reason to buy that outfit; you have no money, and the outfit is ugly. (conceivable, reasonable)
I believed the lie because it seemed plausible to me. (believable, logical)
The scientist's theories seemed plausible to the medical community, but the studies would need to be reviewed by his peers before they were fully accepted. (feasible, logical, credible)
