Tips: Sentiment can be applied a number of different ways. All of the uses have the idea of senses and feelings. Think of the related word sentimental (strongly affected by feelings). A sentiment can be a general feeling, in this case meaning "opinion," or it can refer to a person, emotional feeling.

Usage Examples:

The sentiment at the company is that we should all be payed more for our work. (opinion, common belief)

He told me he was against the idea, and I share his sentiment. (opinion, belief)

There was far too much sentiment in the film, since it was supposed to be an action drama. (emotion, affection)

Unfortunately, I donít think he shares my sentiments. (feelings, beliefs, ideas)
