Tips: Potpourri is derived from the French pot pourri, which means "rotten pot or stew." Picture a pot with many different things in it. Potpourri represents such a combination of different things. Oddly and ironically, potpourri has also come to refer to a collection of dried fruits or flowers used to create a pleasant scent in a rooml. Use potpourri as a more sophisticated way of describing an assortment of varying things.

Usage Examples:

The meeting offered a potpourri of ideas. (medley)

To make her room smell nicer, she put out a bowl of potpourri. (combination of dried flowers)

I love the potpourri of smells that come out of the kitchen every Thanksgiving. (combination, mixture)
