Definition: 1. the loyalty that citizens show their country, or subjects owe their sovereign; 2. faithfulness from a friend to a friend or from husband to wife

Antonyms: betrayal, disloyalty, treachery, apathy, indifference, negligence

Tips: While fealty originated as a contract between two entities or persons and enabled the feudalistic form of social structure to work, fealty is now an elaborate and formal way of describing a bond or loyalty. It is not usually used in conversation, but can be seen in literary context.

The fealty between friends is a little like an alliance between countries. (loyalty, commitment, devotedness)
